With Sympathy - for Katie

I have felt for over a week that it would be a good thing to send a card to the Renz family acknowledging what Katie's blog meant to me and mourning her passing. She was a cyber space friend. I just couldn't get myself to make a card. After a good cry yesterday, (about several things; am okay, everyone!) I began this card. Finished it just this morning. Simple, but pretty, I think. Now I need to decide what to write inside underneath the With Sympathy sentiment. Is it hard for everyone else to know just what to say?

This flower stamp is from Inkadinkado; have not used it before. After stamping it with Memento London Fog ink for a softer image, I got out my water color pencils and set to work. The pencils are from Staedtler, Nos. 6, 25 & 38. Before going over the image with my aqua pen, I added some shading. The focal point rose is done on SU's Very Vanilla paper and placed on top a Concord Crush mat and card base. I used dimensionals to make the tone-on-tone frame stand out. I scored a line edge to complete the main image. Inside, the sentiment (no stamp company name on it) is inked with the London Fog and VersaMark. I heat embossed it with clear embossing powder from Ranger. The inside paper also has a scored edge.

Although making this card triggered some painful memories for me, I am glad to have done it. Katie Renz, Rest in Peace.

CFC28 So Grateful Tag

Hello Fellow Crafters!  Happy Fall and a Very Happy Thanksgiving too.

I was just about finished with this card when I remembered Jaydee had mentioned the Cas-ual Friday blog and this challenge. I had been looking for something to make this gate-fold card stay closed so made the hand-cut tag. It works! The card also fits being grateful - see the badge on the blog edge. (FYI The card is much prettier in person than in my pictures. Need to work on my photographing.)

It was a fun card to make. I cased a technique shown at card club with Kelly Emerson awhile back. First I punched out a leaf with the EK Success large maple leaf punch, then dabbed dots of ink onto a cotton ball with reinkers from Stampin' Up! and inked up the leaf.  Aren't the colors pretty all smashed together? Inks used are Chocolate Chip, Dusty Durango, Yo Yo Yellow, Crumb Cake & Soft Suede. The pretty leaf is popped-up on the left panel with a dimensional and off-set to open the card, while the tag is on the right panel. The sponged tag sentiment is from the Gina K. Designs Autumn Splendor set. Inside, using the leaf negative, I stamped several times turning the cutout. The small leaf is from a 1997 SU set, not sure the name. The panels and matting are Dusty Durango & Chocolate Chip on a bi-folded Very Vanilla card. The inside Happy Thanksgiving sentiment on a Modern Label punch and sponged, is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Thanks for stopping by checking out my blog.   Oops - too late for the challenge.   :{
